Revenge of the Sith (2005) Had One of the Best Alternate Endings in Gaming History

Post by SADAF234 »

With the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith's video game release (May 5, 2005) just passing, it's a perfect time to revisit what made that game such a standout—especially on Xbox and PS2.

Anyone else remember that incredible alternate ending?
Instead of the tragic conclusion we saw in the film, the game gives you the chance to flip the script:
Anakin defeats Obi-Wan on Mustafar

Then immediately betrays and kills Sidious
And claims the galaxy for himself
It’s dark, dramatic, and one of the boldest "what if?" scenarios to ever come from a movie tie-in game.
Why Do We Love These Alternate Endings?
So many older games let us explore alternate realities or paths the movies couldn't—and players loved it. A few unforgettable examples:

Lord of the Rings: Conquest – After the main story, you unlock an evil campaign where Frodo fails, and you sack the Shire. Gandalf didn’t stand a chance.
The Matrix: Path of Neo – The devs flat-out admitted the film ending wouldn't make for great gameplay… so you end up fighting a giant Kaiju-sized Agent Smith instead.
Peter Jackson’s King Kong – An alternate ending lets you save Kong and return him to Skull Island.
The Matrix again – Take the blue pill and end the game immediately. Morpheus just stares at you, confused.
The Force Unleashed – Let’s just say choking out Vader never got old… especially in the dark side ending.

Remember When Licensed Games Took Risks?
Tie-ins used to be more than quick cash-ins. They offered new stories, creative spins, and genuinely surprising gameplay. They weren’t always perfect, but they were memorable.
If you played these games, you probably still remember the moment you unlocked those endings—they stuck with you.
Which alternate game ending blew your mind back in the day? Or what franchise do you wish had done the same?
Share your favorites below. Let’s talk forgotten classics and great “what ifs.”
