Fans eagerly awaiting the release of Terminator: Survivors will have to hold on a bit longer. Developer Nacon has officially delayed the game's Early Access release, originally set for October, to an unspecified date in 2025.
Nacon made the announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, citing the need for additional time to meet fans' high expectations. The studio acknowledged the disappointment this delay may cause, especially for those looking forward to diving into the game this Halloween. However, they expressed confidence in their decision, stating, "In the long term, we believe this is the right call."
"Dear Survivors, we have an important update about Terminator: Survivors," the announcement read.
The studio further elaborated, "Over the past few months, we’ve been really impressed by your enthusiasm and amazed by the response to our announcements, and we know how eagerly fans are awaiting Terminator: Survivors. To realize our vision, and to make sure to deliver the game that fits your expectations, we need some additional time. Thus, we will be pushing the launch to 2025."
Terminator: Survivors was first announced in 2022 as an intense multiplayer game set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Terminator franchise. The game unfolds after the catastrophic events of Judgement Day but before John Connor forms his resistance against Skynet. Players are tasked with scavenging for resources in a desolate world, fighting off both human enemies and relentless Terminators alongside up to three friends.
“This takes place in a yet unexplored timeline of the Terminator universe,” creative director Marco Ponte explained earlier this year. “It features a completely original storyline that includes both famous characters and new ones, where you’ll learn about the beginnings of John Connor’s resistance.”
The delay means that fans will have to wait even longer to explore this new chapter in the Terminator saga. In the meantime, those looking for their Terminator fix can look forward to the upcoming anime adaptation, Terminator Zero, set for release on August 29, 2024. The anime recently made headlines after a massive animation leak at Netflix, adding more intrigue to its impending release.
