Diablo 4 Players Finally Unearth Secret Ring After a Year—But It's Disappointing

Diablo 4

A group of determined Diablo 4 players, united under the banner of the "Not Finding A Cow Level" Discord, have recently cracked one of the game's longest-standing mysteries. This dedicated team of treasure seekers discovered an elusive event and a unique item—the Ring of Misfortune—that had only been theorized about until now. Despite the excitement surrounding the discovery, the item turned out to be less than impressive.

The Discovery Journey

The discovery was not an easy feat. The players—Jimpen, Ecledia, Tweaked, Teire, and Raffi1337—had to meet a series of specific conditions to trigger the event. They each had to play as different classes, activate a Greed Shrine while looting, and possess a "lucky hit" stat of 50% or higher. This led them to a mini-event in the Scosglen area, where they looted a butchered soldier NPC's corpse in hopes of finding a rare Lucky Coin. The coin's flavor text hinted at its dubious luck: "Hopefully it brings better luck for you than it did its previous owner."

The Wishing Well Event

The group then traveled to the East of Cerrigar in Scosglen, where they discovered a wishing well. By dropping their Lucky Coins into the well one by one, they received the "Well-Wisher" title, followed by a meteor storm. After the celestial spectacle, each member was awarded the Ring of Misfortune. The entire event, captured in a YouTube video, showcases the group's excitement and the culmination of their efforts.

The Ring of Misfortune: A Letdown?

The stats of the Ring of Misfortune were underwhelming:

  • Item Power: 925
  • Stats: +13.0% Resistance to All Elements, +13 All Stats, +13 Armor, +13 Thorns, +13 Maximum Life, +13 Life per Second
  • Special Effect: "Lucky Hit: Up to a 100% chance to lose all of your Resource."

The ring's unique effect, combined with its mediocre stats, left many players feeling that the item did not live up to the hype. Moreover, the ring cannot be sold, traded, or salvaged, making it a permanent addition to the character's inventory.

What's Next? The Search for the Secret Cow Level

Despite the ring's lackluster qualities, players are speculating that it might be a clue in the ongoing hunt for Diablo 4's secret cow level—a legendary feature in the series that has captivated players for years. Whether the Ring of Misfortune is a stepping stone towards this hidden content or simply a standalone oddity remains to be seen.

Diablo 4, which had a rocky start, has been gaining momentum with recent events and updates. The "Loot Reborn" event was a major success, bringing much-needed changes to the game. As fans eagerly await the "Vessel of Hatred" expansion set for October 8, the discovery of the Ring of Misfortune adds a new layer of intrigue to the game's ever-expanding world.
